Sorbus Joseph Rock
Sorbus Joseph Rock, this Rowan tree is one I would not be without; it is excellent for a small garden.
It gives a long season of interest and its ferny leaves do not cast too dense a shadow over the rest of the garden.
Joseph Rock survives in most soil types and is fully hardy, growing ultimately to a height of 900cm and spread of 700cm. it likes full sun but will tolerate partial shade.
It is an outstanding garden tree for general planting, especially where it will be seen in autumn. The foliage is yellowish green in summer and turns various shades of orange, copper, crimson and plum purple in autumn. Clusters of small round berries start as light creamy yellow and later deepen to amber. The sight of the apricot berries set against the autumn foliage is not one to be missed.
The Royal Horticultural Society has given it its prestigious Award of Garden Merit (AGM).
