My Gardening Heroes

It would have been easy to call this section My Gardening Gurus. That word guru is so overused these days that hero sounds so much more appropriate.

I can imagine those not into gardening wondering how on earth you can have such a thing as a gardening hero. But we who strive to be gardeners certainly can look up to those ladies and gentlemen who have more knowledge and imagination than we do.

In my search for knowledge in my early days of gardening I gained much from books and weekly magazines, later from monthly magazines. There is no doubt though that television began to take over and teach me more. The main reason for this being that the television companies started to put together more and more programmes about garden design and maintenance. That in my opinion did have a downside in that many “time slot fillers” were produced that did not teach the correct principals and although the gardens may look good to begin with they were not sustainable in the longer term.
